Direct Support Worker Snapshot- Christina

After working in the banking industry for several decades, Christina made the change to become a Direct Support Worker. She wanted a rewarding career where she could help those in the community who needed it most. The sick, the aged and the disabled. As a Direct Support Worker, she puts a smile on the face of her clients and makes a real tangible difference to their lives.

In 2017 she completed her Cert III in Individual Support and soon after joined Accuro Home Care. Since then, she has come to value her position and enjoys listening to each of her clients unique stories and seeing how their lives improve with the care she gives. She respects her clients individuality and believes that to understand her clients needs, one should be patient, show respect, be kind and communicate well.

A large part of her role is providing social supports to NDIS clients and when time allows, she will also perform domestic and personal supports.

Her tip for being a good Direct Support Worker, "Always do your best and give your full commitment to each client service. If you are ever not sure about how to handle things, ask and always remain calm. Problems can be sorted out. Also choose a provider who is dedicated to providing excellent service to their clients and show care and consideration to their staff".

Christina continues to learn every day through experience and from her co-workers and is happy to take on any training opportunity available to help develop her skills.
