Using a more in depth recruitment process to ensure we hire the best staff possible, Accuro Home Care has recently undergone a recruitment drive across the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie and Newcastle areas. Our process involves an initial application review, an over the phone interview and an in person interview where the applicant is ask many questions about the industry and required to complete a questionnaire. If successful, they then need to complete a comprehensive 5 hour induction in preparation for providing services.

Once on board, our new Direct Support Worker is required to complete over 50 separate documents created in house relating to the provision of quality care, Occupational Health and Safety and industry requirements. When they perform their initial services they are accompanied by a Senior Support Worker who monitors and then reports on their performance, allowing us to identify further areas of training that may be needed. Only the best and most experienced Senior Support Workers are selected to perform the training services and will have completed in house course on how to be a "trainer". Following this, spot checks may be performed on any Direct Support Worker at any time, again, to identify where extra training may be needed.

With existing workers, we are providing ongoing skills gap training through Tafe NSW and Essential Skills.

Currently we have workers completing the following elective modules from the Certificate III in Individual Support with Essential Skills;

  • Work with People with Mental Health Issues
  • Respond to Suspected Abuse
  • Facilitate Responsible Behaviour

This is in response to identified demands of the industry.

Shortly, we will have workers completing the following modules at Tafe NSW  that can go towards a Certificate IV in the Industry.

  • Facilitate the Empowerment of Older People
  • Provide Individualised Support
  • Support Independence and Wellbeing
  • Provide Support to People Living with Dementia
  • Implement Falls Prevention Strategies

We provide these opportunities to our workers free of charge and pay them while they attend class.

In response to changes with the NDIS, all Accuro Home Care workers (even office staff) are now require to complete the NDIS Worker Orientation program. This is an interactive online course that explains the obligations of workers under the NDIS Code of Conduct – from the perspective of NDIS participants.

We now have an abundance of better prepared staff to fullfill short term, long term, one off and emergency services not only for our clients but for the clients of other organisations that we work with.

If you are an organisation that requires assistance with filling services or if you are a individual who is looking for services, please fell free to give us a call.
